James (Jim) Pagliaro

James (Jim) Pagliaro is a noted trial lawyer and accomplished law firm leader. For over 30 years Jim was a top-performing litigation partner and practice leader at Morgan Lewis. He served as the firm’s first Global Litigation Practice Leader from 1998 until 2009 when he became Managing Partner for Client Relations.

As Litigation Practice Leader, Jim helped define the firm’s practice group model. He was integral to the tripling in size and profitability of the litigation practice, including strategic lateral partner hiring and integration efforts across the U.S. and in Europe. He also served for ten years on the firm’s Compensation Committee, playing a key role in developing its novel partner compensation system, which rewards collaboration. As Managing Partner for Client Relations, Jim developed a comprehensive client relations program, including a formal key client initiative program and reorganization of the marketing and business development function. He spearheaded two client feedback initiatives, personally interviewing many of the firm’s key clients, implementing client recommendations, and launching Client Alliance, a formal client team program. In 2015 the Chair of Morgan Lewis presented Jim with the first-ever “Excellence in Client Service Award” at the firm’s annual partner meeting.

Throughout his time in firm leadership, Jim sustained a thriving litigation practice. He represented Fortune 100 companies as national trial and coordinating counsel in cases around the country, leading trial teams in over 40 civil jury trials. Jim was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2001 and remains active in the ACTL. An active writer and speaker, Jim has spoken and led panels on topics including firm and practice group organization, management and profitability; partner compensation; and key client programs. In addition, Jim has taught substantive courses on deposition and trial advocacy as well as mass tort practice, and served as Chair of the Morgan Lewis Trial Academy.
